You Can Run, but You Will Only Go to Jail Tired...
STOREY COUNTY, NV - On April 11, 2026, at approximately 11:11 a.m, Storey County Sheriff's Office deputies were alerted to a stolen vehicle (out of Washoe County) traveling in the area of I-80 and Lockwood. Dispatch advised the driver was also a suspect in a domestic battery and may be armed. A deputy observed the vehicle traveling east bound on I-80 and exit the freeway near Patrick, eventually traveling on Waltham Way in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center.
The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle came to a stop and the deputy attempted to get the driver to exit the vehicle. The driver failed to comply with commands and drove away. The deputy pursued, while the driver actively attempted to evade. The driver was observed traveling at a high rate of speed, continuing southbound on USA Parkway from Waltham Way. The driver failed to stop for several traffic lights, drove recklessly, and eventually exited USA Parkway onto private property, where he rammed his vehicle through two locked gates.
The driver continued on an unpaved road where deputies lost visual of the vehicle. Nevada Highway Patrol and Lyon County Sheriff's Office responded to assist. Deputies eventually located the vehicle approximately one half mile from it's last known location. Deputies observed the driver walking on foot a distance away from the vehicle. Several commands were given to the driver to stop and show his hands. The driver failed to comply and began to run from the area, still not showing his hands. Due to the report of being possibly armed and his failure to show his hands, Lyon County Sheriff's Office released a K9 to apprehend the driver. The K9 successfully apprehended the driver, later identified as Earl Houlden (age 41 of Sun Valley, NV). Deputies took Houlden into custody. Houlden was medically treated and cleared before being booked into the Storey County Detention Facility on the following charges:
-Resist public officer (misdemeanor)
-Driver evade, elude, or fail to stop on signal of peace officer, endangering other person or property (felony)
-Driver evade, elude, or fail to stop on signal of peace officer, damaging property of another (felony)
-Reckless driving with disregard of safety of persons or property (misdemeanor)
-Destroy or injure real or personal property of another, value $5,000 or greater (felony)
-Destroy or injure real or personal property of another, value $250 or greater but less than $5,000 (gross misdemeanor)
-Trespass, not amounting to burglary (misdemeanor)
We would like to thank the Lyon County Sheriff's Office and Nevada Highway Patrol for their assistance in this incident.
