Storey County Advances I-80/Patrick Interchange Improvement Project
Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center, Nev. —Storey County is continuing coordinated efforts with regional and private partners to address increasing traffic impacts along Interstate 80 and within the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center (TRI-Center).
At its April 21, 2026, meeting, the Board of County Commissioners directed staff to advance an infrastructure improvement project at the I-80/Patrick Interchange in coordination with Tesla and the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT).
The project will include extending the westbound on-ramp at Patrick by nearly half a mile to improve merging conditions, reduce congestion, and enhance safety for commuters traveling between USA Parkway and the Vista area. The improvement is expected to support more consistent traffic flow within the TRI-Center, particularly along USA Parkway and Waltham Way.
This effort is designed as a near-term solution that works alongside NDOT’s long-term I-80 widening project, which will address broader regional capacity needs.
“We’ve been working closely with Tesla and NDOT to identify solutions that address real traffic challenges affecting the entire corridor,” said County Manager Austin Osborne. “This type of collaboration allows us to move more quickly on improvements that benefit the public, while aligning infrastructure needs with ongoing growth in the region.”
The county will fully fund the I-80/Patrick Interchange project. Storey County will also continue its ongoing local efforts to improve traffic conditions, including maintenance of new traffic signals on USA Parkway, completion of the Electric Avenue traffic signal, permitting additional planned extended-stay hotels, and coordinating with RTC Washoe and NDOT on projects such as the Northeast Connector, Commuter Rail Study, and I-80 widening projects.
Storey County will continue to provide updates at Board of County Commissioners meetings, on social media, and through its website as this effort moves forward.
