Free Dementia Self-Management Program Available
Storey County residents living with mild to moderate dementia or experiencing changes in memory or thinking have an opportunity to participate in a free six-week self-management program.
The University of Nevada, Reno’s Dementia Engagement, Education and Research (DEER) Program is offering its Dementia Self-Management Program to help participants explore strategies for supporting their well-being while living with dementia.
Participants will connect with peers and explore the Dementia Self-Management Guidebook in a supportive environment. A formal dementia diagnosis is not required to participate.
The program includes a virtual option open to participants nationwide and an in-person option in Reno.
Storey County is sharing information about the program as part of its ongoing Dementia Friendly Nevada efforts, which include connecting residents with dementia-related information, resources and support.
Those efforts also include local Dementia Friendly Nevada meetings at Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City. The next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 12 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Additional meetings are scheduled for Jan. 14 and March 11, weather permitting.
