STOREY COUNTY, NV - On Jan. 18, 2026, at approximately 4:05 p.m., a Storey County Sheriff’s Office Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. Multiple occupants were observed inside the vehicle. A Storey County Sheriff’s Office K9 Deputy arrived on scene to assist.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Jesse Perks (age 36 of Silver Springs, NV). A passenger in the rear seat of the vehicle was identified as Kristopher Shaffer (age 41 of Reno, NV). Upon a records check, Shaffer returned with an active, extraditable warrant out of Vancouver, WA. Shaffer was placed under arrest pursuant to the warrant.

During a search incident to arrest of his person, a glass pipe and a white substance (alleged methamphetamine) were discovered in Shaffer’s pants pocket.

Due to this discovery, the K9 Deputy deployed K9 Chino (still a very good boy) to conduct an open air sniff of the vehicle. K9 Chino alerted to the odor of the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle, where alleged ecstasy pills, a rifle, and brass knuckles were discovered.

Shaffer, a convicted felon, was placed under arrest on the following charges:
NRS 211.370 Arrest on other agency warrant
NRS 453.336 Possess schedule I or II controlled substance, less than 14g, 1st or 2nd offense
NRS 453.566 Use or possess drug paraphernalia
NRS 202.360 Own or possess firearm by prohibited person

NRS 202.350 Possess dangerous weapon

Both Shaffer and Perks were booked into the Storey County Detention Facility. Shaffer will await extradition to Washington state. We will make sure he gets a nice, long ride there to face his charges.
