The Dirty Soda Saloon Celebrates Opening with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
The State of Nevada and Storey County Chamber of Commerce welcomed the new business to Virginia City.
The community gathered to officially welcome the Dirty Soda Saloon to Virginia City with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, May 9. The speakeasy-style establishment is located beneath the Virginia City Mercantile (85 S. C St.) – patrons must find the password to gain access through a secret doorway.
The Dirty Soda Saloon is owned by real estate developer and investor Jonathan Gardner and his wife. The couple owns the Mercantile building and said they were inspired to create a place that families could enjoy while visiting Virginia City, as well as an alcohol-free alternative for all locals and visitors.
"Our goal is to create family-friendly things in Virginia City," Gardner said during the ceremony. "We hope this can be the first of many things that happen."
Gardner shared his deep roots in Nevada, as a fourth-generation Nevadan, with ancestors that include miners. “It’s a very special place for me, being in Virginia City,” he affirmed.
Alexia Sober, Director of the Storey County Chamber of Commerce presented Gardner with a certificate and said, “We are very excited to welcome the Dirty Soda Saloon Speakeasy. Welcome to Virginia City, as a new business, we’re excited to have you.”
Gardner also received a certificate from the State of Nevada, presented by Annemarie Vogedes, a representative from Congressman Mark Amodei’s Office.
“Thank you for providing a welcoming family-friendly atmosphere in Northern Nevada,” Vogedes shared.
