Citizens Academy offers citizens the opportunity to experience various types of training our Deputy Sheriffs receive, and observe a vast array of situations they encounter daily. Citizens learn about patrol and detention operations, dispatch operations, Nevada Revised Statutes, traffic operations, specialty units, community policing, and more.

To apply, you may pick up an application at the Storey County Sheriff's Office or email Sergeant Beaumont at bbeaumont@storeycounty.org for an electronic copy. Once completed you may return the application to the sheriff's office located at 205 S. C Street in Virginia City or scan and email it to bbeaumont@storeycounty.org.
The 2026 Citizens Academy will run for 6 weeks, March 8 to April 12, 2026. Sessions will be once per week, held on Sundays, from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Locations will vary depending on the topic of the session. We look forward to seeing you!
