Storey County Clerk Explains Mail Ballot Process Ahead of June 9 Primary Election
With the June 9, 2026, Primary Election and Early Voting approaching, the Storey County Clerk’s Office is providing detailed information about how mail ballots and other voting options work.
All active registered voters in Storey County will receive a mail ballot for the primary election. Ballots will be mailed to voters by May 20th, 2026.
“Our office is focused on ensuring every eligible voter understands their options before Election Day so that they may confidently cast their vote,” said Jim Hindle, Storey County Clerk & Treasurer.
How Mail Ballots Work
Voters may complete their ballot at home and return it in one of three ways:
• Mail it using the provided postage-paid envelope
• Drop it off at the Clerk & Treasurer’s Office:
26 S. B Street (2nd Floor, Drawer D), Virginia City, NV 89440
• Drop it off at any polling location during voting hours, either on election day or during early voting
Mail ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day, June 9th to be counted.
Early Voting: Will run from May 23 to June 5. *
Voters who prefer to cast their ballot in person before Election Day may participate in early voting.
*Note: There will be no early voting on Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day.

o June 1 – 5 (8:00 AM – 6:00 PM)
Election Day Voting: Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

Polls will be open from 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM.
Military, Overseas and Eligible Disabled Voters
Eligible military, overseas and disabled voters may use the Effective Absentee System for Elections (EASE), administered by the Nevada Secretary of State. The system will be available for all state, county, and municipal elections no less than 46 days before Election Day and can be accessed at NVEASE.gov.
EASE allows eligible voters to register and access their ballot electronically from anywhere. The system was expanded in 2021 to provide additional accessibility options for voters with disabilities.

Do I need identification to vote?
Identification requirements apply for first-time voters who registered by mail and did not provide identification at that time. Additional information is available on the County website.
Can I still register to vote?
Voter registration deadlines for the Primary Election are approaching. Residents may register online, by mail, or in person prior to the applicable deadlines.
Can I drop off someone else’s ballot?
Yes, you may drop off someone else’s ballot, such as a family member, neighbor, or friend, as long as it is in the return envelope provided and the voter has signed the signature section on the envelope. We do not recommend the use of third-party organizations to return your ballot.
How do verify my voter registration status, party affiliation and contact info?
Residents are encouraged to verify their voter registration status, party affiliation, and contact information before the June election. Residents can do so by either calling our Clerk’s Office at 775-847-0969 or online at www.nvsos.gov/votersearch
