Waste Management Silver Springs Transfer Station Opens

The Silver Springs Area Chamber of Commerce was pleased to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and official grand opening for the new Waste Management Silver Springs Transfer Station, located at 2425 Almond Dr., on Friday, Aug. 7, 2026.

Chamber President Vida Keller, joined by Vice Chairman Richard Mitrotz and Secretary/Treasurer Mandy Brinnand, welcomed WM staff, local dignitaries, and community members to celebrate the opening of a much-anticipated facility that allows residents to dispose of trash and recycling locally without having to travel out of town.

"This is going to be huge for the future, moving forward," said Keller. "I love it. I've lived here for 32 years and I don't have to go out of town now."

Waste Management representatives said they are excited to expand services in Silver Springs, which represents a significant convenience for area residents while also strengthening local infrastructure, services, and connections with local organizations.

"We're just so happy to be a part of this community and continue to provide an important service and also give back where we can," said WM Northern Nevada Contract Manager Kim Fleming alongside WM Director of Recycling/Transfer Stations for Northern California and Nevada Marcus Nettz. "This is a long-time coming, but we're so glad that it's finally here."

As part of that commitment, WM has pledged donations to the Lyon County Library Foundation and the Boys & Girls Club of Mason Valley. Company representatives also noted that additional community support funding is available and encouraged local nonprofits and community organizations in the Silver Springs area to reach out if they are seeking assistance.

The new Silver Springs Transfer Station is open Tuesday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a brief lunch closure from noon to 12:30 p.m. Residents should note that the former WM transfer station at 1900 Eureka St. has permanently closed, and all waste and recycling materials should now be taken to the new facility at 2425 Almond Dr.
