Special Events at HCC Food Pantries in Dayton, Silver Springs and Yerington
At Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties (HCC) food pantries in Dayton, Silver Springs and Yerington, support goes beyond food assistance.
HCC believes in empowering individuals and families to make informed choices about their health, ensuring they have access to the resources they need to plan for their futures effectively.
With this in mind, HCC food pantries maintain a regular schedule of outreach by various health and wellness groups. For instance, during February, the pantries has had visits from the following organizations:
Empowered Go mobile wellness clinic for women ages 18-49 offers free services. The mobile clinic is dedicated to meeting the unique healthcare needs of pregnant, postpartum, and reproductive-aged women who are affected by or at risk for opioid use disorder in rural and frontier areas of Northern Nevada. For
more information, visit empoweredgo.org.
Nevada Health Centers mobile medical services. For more information, call 775-257-7455.
SilverSummit Healthplan, a managed care organization, offers information about its expansion into rural Nevada.
CareSource Nevada, a nonprofit managed care organization, offers information about its expansion into rural Nevada, and Medicaid.
Wellcare, a Medicare Advantage Company, offers information for those interested in learning more about Medicare.
Ongoing wellness support: Each HCC pantry also has Community Health Workers on-site who can help guide people to accurate information and local resources. Community Health Workers can also connect people with primary care physicians to help create and support a healthy living plan and set goals.
In a partnership with the American Heart Association, HCC food pantries all have tabletop blood pressure units available at no cost. Even for those with no history of blood pressure issues, keeping tabs on one’s blood pressure can help spot other health issues early. High blood pressure can be an indication of other health risks such as heart disease, stroke, even dementia.
HCC food pantries not only address immediate food insecurity but also support the overall well-being of community members by sharing information such as tobacco cessation programs and health resources such as family planning supplies.
In addition to family planning supplies such as condoms, each of HCC’s food pantries also carries Naloxone kits, a critical tool in the fight against opioid overdoses. HCC aims to enhance community safety and promote awareness around substance use. With those goals in mind, the food pantries also
carry free medication lock boxes, environmentally safe medication disposal kits, and information about vaping prevention and more.
