PINE NUTS: Twain Statue Arrives
Our small but powerful literary society, The Never Sweats, has a common bond, “Love of History and Love of Community,” and Mark Twain is our Patron Saint. So we are excited about the arrival of a splendiferous statue of Mark Twain on the 24th of July. There will be a short welcoming ceremony from 5-6pm at McFadden Plaza, just outside of the Fox Brewery, where we Never Sweats gather for lunch on the last Friday of each month. There will be a few short speeches full of gratitude, and I will have the distinct honor of speaking as the ghost of Mark Twain…

Amidst stimulating company here at the St. Charles, now The Fox, journalist Sam Clemens discovered the literary lodestone of his legendary career as the father of America’s literature, Mark Twain
Then, we can capture a picture of the two of them sitting on that bench next to Samuel, and the decades will be joined. For those who have read some of Twain’s books, you will be happy to know that this endearing bronze statue will feature Mark Twain reading not, The Innocents Abroad, but Roughing It.
