On Nov. 9, history took center stage—and got a little sassy—as performer Kim Harris stepped into the heels of Comstock madam Cad Thompson for The Odeon’s “Odeon Oldies” speaker series. With a sharp wit, a twinkle in her eye, and a spot-on Irish accent, Harris brought the long-forgotten Thompson back to life.

Thompson—born Sarah Hagan—ran the Brick House brothel in Virginia City from the 1860s through the 1880s, holding her own among the likes of famous working girls and madams such as Rosa May and Julia Bulette, though her story has largely faded from local lore—until now. Audience members were treated to an afternoon of laughter, scandal, and storytelling, uncovering the bold spirit of a true Comstock woman.

And it was not just a good time—it was for a good cause. Proceeds from the Odeon Oldies series stay right here on the Comstock, helping to fund local historic projects and keep our community’s wild, wonderful culture alive.
