Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Out-of-State Sex Offender for Failure to Register
SILVER SPRINGS, NV – On March 2, 2026, at approximately 7:45 p.m., deputies with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) Central Command Patrol Squad contacted 61-year-old Richard Ray Richards in the Silver Springs area.
During the contact, deputies determined that Richards is a registered sex offender in the State of California. After conferring with members of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Task Force, deputies learned Richards had been present in the Silver Springs area for more than 48 hours without registering with any law enforcement agency in Nevada, as required by state law.
Richards was taken into custody and booked into the Lyon County Jail on one felony count of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Task Force remains committed to ensuring that all registered sex offenders residing in or visiting Lyon County comply with Nevada’s registration requirements. Deputies proactively investigate reports of non-compliance and take appropriate enforcement action to protect the community.
The mission of the Task Force is to ensure full compliance among registered sex offenders within Lyon County. Individuals who fail to meet their legal obligations will be held accountable.
