Historic Fourth Ward School Celebrates 150 Years with Anniversary Celebration
Virginia City, NV — The Historic Fourth Ward School Museum & Archive invites the community to join an evening of celebration, reflection, and music on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, commemorating the 150th anniversary of one of Nevada's most treasured landmarks and the nation's only surviving four-story wooden schoolhouse.
Guests will gather inside the remarkable National Historic Landmark for an evening honoring a century and a half of education, community, and preservation. The celebration will offer guests an opportunity to explore the historic school, enjoy hors d'oeuvres and beverages, and connect with fellow supporters of Comstock history.
The evening's anniversary program will feature special presentations from historians, preservation advocates, and community members whose work and dedication helped protect and preserve the Fourth Ward School for future generations. Their stories will illuminate the remarkable journey of the building, from its construction and opening in 1876 at the height of the Comstock mining boom, through decades of decline and uncertainty, to its eventual transformation into a museum dedicated to preserving and sharing Nevada's rich heritage.
The evening will also feature live music by Squeek Steele, adding to a festive celebration of the people and stories that have shaped the Fourth Ward School over the past 150 years.
