Dayton Valley Dog Park's Newly-Turfed All Breed Area Reopens
After months of improvements and careful growing time, the Dayton Valley Dog Park's All Breed Area officially reopened to four-legged visitors on Saturday, Aug. 8.
To celebrate the occasion, local dog owners and their furry companions gathered to enjoy the freshly renovated space while What's Your Beef food truck was onsite serving lunch to the humans as pups sniffed, rolled, and played on the new turf.
The All Breed Area Phase II improvement project was made possible through the support of the Brown Family Foundation and Cassinelli Landscaping & Construction. The project focused on replacing approximately 9,000 square feet of worn turf to create a more durable and enjoyable play area for dogs and their owners.
Work included removing 6 to 8 inches of existing turf and rock, evaluating the sprinkler system to ensure proper coverage, importing a new soil blend consisting of topsoil, compost, and other amendments as needed, and installing Tall Fescue sod selected for its ability to better withstand the heavy traffic common in the park's busiest section.
Additional improvements completed during the project included repairing and refinishing benches, repairing a donation tube, and removing a dead tree.
Work at the popular community dog park continues, with crews and vendors also refreshing rock planter areas not addressed during the park's 2025 Phase I improvements, stabilizing the ground beneath gates separating park sections, repainting handicap parking spaces, and raising memorial bricks to create a more prominent tribute area.
Future enhancements suggested by park users include adding pergola-style shade structures and permanent dog water fountains, though county approval would be required for the latter.
With the newly renovated DVDP All Breed Area back in service, local dogs—and their humans—can once again run, roll, wrestle, and enjoy the a day at the park.
