Dayton Community Stands with Kellen
via DHS Booster Club
Jan. 6: Our hearts are with you Kellen Kranjcec. Kellen Kranjcec is a student at Dayton High School who recently collapsed and had to be resuscitated while practicing basketball at Dayton High School. He was careflighted to the hospital, and he is in good condition now, but will be flown to Stanford for further care. No family or community can ever prepare for something like this.
Kellen is a valued and cherished part of the Dayton High School family, and his parents are both dedicated members of the Lyon County School District. They have given so much to our students and our community. We stand strong with them and Kellen. In moments like this, we are reminded of the strength, compassion, and unity that defines Dayton.
As Kellen and his family navigate the days ahead, we stand beside them with hope, love, and unwavering support. If you would like to help, please consider donating or posting your well wishes. GoFundMe page: gofund.me/9e8085975
We are One Town. One Team.
Jan. 14: As of last night, Kellen's GoFundMe total is $16,996.
To our understanding, Kellen is home and doing well. At this time, it is unclear when he and his parents will return to school, as this is a life-altering adjustment for the entire family. We are beyond proud of our leadership students for taking the initiative to start the GoFundMe, and we are deeply grateful to the Dayton High School staff and first responders. Without their quick actions and care, the outcome could have been very different. We also recognize that this event was not only difficult for Kellen and his family, but also for the students and staff who were present that day. Moments like this cause all of us to pause and take inventory of our own lives. We strongly encourage anyone who may be struggling to reach out for support. The DHS Booster Club and Dayton High School have a list of resources available to help.
We are incredibly grateful to this community for its unwavering support and are truly honored to witness how compassionately and responsibly this school and community came together during such a difficult and frightening event.
"We are absolutely humbled and overwhelmed with the outpouring of love, support, prayers and generosity of our family, friends, and this amazing community! We are blessed beyond measure and we feel there is no true adequate way for us to convey or articulate the tremendous amount of gratitude we have for each and everyone of you that have kept him in your thoughts and prayers. Kellen had a very successful procedure done last night that implanted a defibrillator under his left arm. He is a very lucky boy! This is definitely a life altering event but due to the quick actions of Jason Santos, Danielle Salimone, and Rob Schneider and the responding EMTs, this was not a life ending event! Kellen is recovering well this morning, in fact his Doctors are pretty amazed with how well he is doing! He is hoping to be discharged this evening! At the latest tomorrow morning. The road to recovery and follow ups will be long and arduous but we have a pretty stubborn and determined boy ready to prove he can and will recover fully! Thank you DHS Stuco, Trey Lundeen, Family, Friends and the AMAZING and LOVING community of Dayton! We love you ALL and will never be able to thank you enough!" – Kevin Kranjcec, Kellen's father wrote on the DHS Booster Club Facebook page on Jan. 10
