The Risk Reduction crew is working as partner with the Dayton Valley Conservation District on the Carson Riverbank Restoration Project. It is a grant funded project to reshape the riverbanks within the Ricci Ranch and Pradere Ranch corridor on both the south and north edges of the river. This project includes bioengineering to plant native willow within the newly shaped banks of the river following the placement of varying sized rocks for stabilization during storm surging and flooding. This work is also intended to promote wildlife survivability and habitat for reproduction.

Currently, our members are hand cutting 3,500 individual mature willow and placing them in 8-10 grouped bundles, The bundles are then planted in five-foot intervals at predetermined locations along the reshaped riverbanks. The willow are then surrounded by aggregate and the varying sized rock for root stabilization and protection from river surging. This project is one of many that we have partnered with the Dayton Valley Conservation District to enhance the health and beauty of our river corridor and surrounding riparian areas.
