Yerington High School Student Arrest
PRESS RELEASE
October 29, 2025
On October 29, 2025, at approximately 2:39 p.m., the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office
received a report from administrators at Yerington High School regarding a potential threat of violence made by a student toward the school.
According to school officials, multiple students reported hearing another student express intentions to “shoot up the school.” These statements caused concern among both students and staff, prompting an immediate notification to law enforcement.
Deputies responded promptly and made contact with the student and their parent at their residence in Yerington. During the course of the investigation, the student initially denied making the comments but later admitted to having done so.
Based on the findings, it was determined that the student had made threats directed toward students, staff, and the school, which caused fear and disruption. The juvenile was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, where custody was transferred to Juvenile Probation.
The investigation remains active and is being conducted jointly by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and the Lyon County School District. Due to the fact that the student is a juvenile, their name will not be released.
There is no existing threat to students, staff, or the community. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office praises the students and staff of Yerington High School for their attentiveness and collaboration. The safety and security of our schools continue to be a primary concern, and all threats are addressed with the highest level of seriousness and investigated to the fullest.
