FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - August 19, 2025 - Welfare Check in Silver Springs Results in Arrests for Child Endangerment and Sex Offender Violation Silver Springs, Nevada — On August 19, 2025, members of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Central Command Patrol Division responded to a residence in the 2500 block of Tonopah Street in Silver Springs for a welfare check involving juveniles reportedly living in poor conditions. Upon arrival, deputies contacted 44-year-old Silver Springs resident Leigha Griffiths, who allowed deputies to enter the residence. Inside, deputies found the home in complete disarray, including piles of dirty clothes, rotting food, dirty dishes, and animal feces. Drug paraphernalia was also discovered in the bathroom that contained the only working shower in the residence. During the investigation, personnel assigned to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Task Force contacted 54-year-old Steven Frey, a Silver Springs resident who was living in an RV in the backyard of the property. Frey, a Tier III registered sex offender, was found to be residing at the location without updating his address as required by Nevada law. He admitted to failing to update his sex offender registration and was arrested on one felony charge of violating registration requirements. Due to serious medical issues, Frey was later un-arrested and transported to a local hospital for treatment. His case will be forwarded to the Lyon County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. As a result of the welfare check, three juveniles were removed from the residence by the Nevada Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS). Griffiths was arrested and transported to the Lyon County Jail, where she is being held on the following charges: Abuse, Neglect, Endangerment of a Child (Felony) – 3 counts, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Misdemeanor) Total Bail: $61,140.00.
