Storey County to Host Mark Twain Fire Evacuation Drill and Town Hall

Storey County Emergency Management, in coordination with local first responders and partner agencies, will host a fire evacuation drill for residents of the Mark Twain community on March 28, 2026, from 8 AM to 12 PM.

The exercise is designed to help residents practice evacuating safely in the event of a wildfire and to strengthen coordination between agencies that respond during emergencies.

Residents are invited to attend an informational Town Hall on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 5:30 PM at the Mark Twain Community Center (500 Sam Clemens Avenue, Dayton, NV). Storey County Emergency Management, the Fire Protection District, and the Sheriff’s Office will explain how the drill will work, what residents should expect, and how households can prepare.

During the drill, participating residents will receive Smart911 alerts with instructions. Residents are encouraged to treat the drill as if it were a real evacuation by following the instructions and practicing their emergency plans.

“This type of exercise gives both residents and first responders valuable experience,” said Adam Wilson, Emergency Management Director.  “Practicing ahead of time helps everyone stay safer during a real emergency.”

Residents who are not yet signed up for Smart911 are encouraged to do so at: https://www.smart911.com/smart911/ref/reg.action?pa=storeycounty
