As wildfire season approaches, Storey County officials are asking residents to help shape the County’s updated wildfire preparedness strategy during an upcoming public review period for the 2026 Community Wildfire Protection Plan.

The draft 2026 Storey County Community Wildfire Protection Plan, also known as the CWPP, will be available for public review beginning June 1 and continuing through June 15. County officials said community feedback will play an important role in refining the plan and identifying priorities aimed at reducing wildfire risk and improving resilience across Storey County.

The plan is designed to help guide wildfire mitigation efforts, protect infrastructure and neighborhoods, and strengthen coordination between local agencies and the public.

Residents can review the draft plan and submit comments online through the CWPP project website at https://cwpp-storey.hub.arcgis.com.

To support the public review process, the Storey County Fire Protection District and SWCA Environmental Consultants will host a public webinar at 6 p.m. June 10. The webinar will provide an overview of the CWPP and give residents an opportunity to ask questions, share concerns, and discuss priority projects related to wildfire preparedness.

Community members can attend the webinar through Zoom at https://swca.zoom.us/j/95424782251.

County officials encouraged all residents to participate in the review process and help shape the final plan before its completion later this year.
