Comstock Metals continues to gain momentum in northern Nevada, following the recent award of tax abatements from the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED). Valued at approximately $900,000, the abatements support the development of the company’s commercial-scale solar panel recycling and critical metal production facility in Silver Springs, an operation expected to bring both economic growth and environmental benefits to the region.
Scheduled to commence production at the end of the second quarter of 2026, the Silver Springs facility represents a first-of-its-kind operation in North America. Designed around Comstock Metals’ certified zero-landfill recycling processes, the site will responsibly manage end-of-life solar panels at scale. Initial capacity is projected at approximately 3.3 million panels per year, or roughly 100,000 tons of material diverted from landfills annually.
As solar adoption accelerates across Nevada and the broader Southwest, so does the volume of aging photovoltaic equipment reaching retirement. The Silver Springs operation is positioned to address that emerging waste stream locally, ensuring hazardous materials are handled responsibly while recovering valuable resources for reuse.
The project has already cleared key regulatory hurdles. Comstock Metals recently secured its remaining state permits and continues to operate its pilot facility as it prepares for full commercial launch.
Beyond environmental stewardship, the facility is expected to deliver meaningful economic impact. Under the abatement agreement, Comstock Metals will create at least 43 diverse, well-paying jobs within its first year of operation. The company also plans to invest more than $12 million in capital expenditures during that period, supporting local contractors, suppliers, and service providers.
Over the full 10-year abatement term, the operation is projected to generate more than $7 million in net new tax revenue for the State of Nevada. This demonstrates the long-term return on investing in clean technology infrastructure.
Company leadership views GOED’s support as validation of the project’s broader significance.
“We are thrilled with GOED’s support and recognition of the value that Comstock Metals brings in terms of economic, environmental, and community benefits,” said Corrado De Gasperis, Comstock’s Executive Chairman and CEO. “We are positioned to serve the entire Southwest region while keeping hazardous waste out of landfills and ecosystems.”
As commissioning efforts continue, the Silver Springs facility stands to reinforce Nevada’s leadership in resource innovation, bridging the state’s mining heritage with the future of clean energy.
