Virginia City, Nev. — St. Mary’s Art Center will mark its 150th anniversary and the start of its 2026 season with its Spring Art Reception from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 16. Guests are invited to explore the galleries, experience the work of featured artist Dale Laitinen and enjoy permanent exhibits inside the historic 1876 landmark. Admission is free and includes light refreshments and beverages. For more information, visit stmarysartcenter.org.

“Our Spring Art Reception is a momentous time for our building as it's the kick-off for our 2026 season and a celebration of 150 years of this historic building," said A. Perry, executive director of St. Mary's Art Center. "We're honored to have Dale's work on exhibit, which represents decades of dedication to his craft. Dale is a talented watercolor and oil painter, and we’re excited to highlight his art and his ongoing commitment to the artist community, along with his loyal and merry band of retreaters.”

The reception will feature a comprehensive exhibition of Laitinen’s work displayed throughout the first-floor galleries. A member of the St. Mary’s community for the last 30 years, Laitinen has led watercolor retreats that have drawn artists from across the region. This exhibition brings together a broad selection of his work, offering visitors a closer look at his artistic development and commitment to the art center.

The event is part of St. Mary’s 150th anniversary celebration, recognizing the building’s storied past as a hospital and its ongoing role as a center for the arts. Visitors are encouraged to explore the historic interior, including recently refreshed original floors, while learning more about the site’s history and enjoying four floors of art.

While admission is free, guests are encouraged to support St. Mary’s Art Center by making a donation or becoming a member during the event. Support helps maintain the building and sustain programming for artists and the public.
