Roadway Reopens Following Virginia City Highlands Structure Fire

VIRGINIA CITY HIGHLANDS, Nev. – The roadway closure related to the structure fire response in Virginia City Highlands has been lifted, and the roadway is now open to motorists.
Storey County Fire Protection District firefighters, along with responding agencies from Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, Central Lyon Fire Protection District, Reno Fire Department, and Carson City Fire Department, worked together during the incident to respond quickly, protect lives, and assist those impacted by the fire.
Storey County extends its appreciation to all emergency responders for their hard work, swift response, and dedication throughout the incident.
The County also thanks the community for their patience and cooperation while emergency crews worked to safely respond to the fire and manage the scene.

Forward Progress Stopped on Virginia City Highlands Structure Fire
VIRGINIA CITY HIGHLANDS, Nev. – Firefighters have stopped the forward progress of a structure fire in Virginia City Highlands and remain on scene conducting suppression and overhaul operations. The call was received at approximately 3:50 p.m.
During the initial response, Storey County Fire Protection District firefighters rescued one individual from the third story of the burning structure before beginning fire suppression efforts.
Protecting lives remains the top priority for Storey County Fire Protection District. Crews immediately worked to locate and remove occupants from the structure before transitioning to fire suppression efforts.
Two individuals were evaluated for burn injuries and smoke inhalation. Additional information regarding their conditions may not be available until a later time. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and is being evaluated.
Responding agencies include Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, Central Lyon Fire Protection District, City of Reno Fire Department and Carson City Fire Department.
Power has been shut off only to residents directly impacted by the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The roadway will remain closed for several hours while crews continue working on scene and ensure the area is safe.
There are no evacuation notices at this time. Officials ask the public to continue avoiding the area and allow emergency crews to work safely.

One firefighter also sustained a minor injury and is being evaluated.Earlier in the incident, multiple fire units responded to the scene, and power was shut off only to residents directly impacted by the fire.There are no evacuation notices in effect at this time.The Storey County Fire District asks the public to avoid the area while crews continue overhaul operations and ensure the scene is safe.
