On Wednesday morning, I visited the Silver Terrace Cemetery, where vandals recently toppled 21 headstones in a sad act of vandalism. The Comstock’s spirit doesn’t falter, and a group has already come together to begin the work of restoration.

They had started early, and by the time I got there, a lot had been accomplished. They're getting the broken headstones cleaned and ready to epoxy back together, and also removing weeds and brush in the affected areas to make access easier.

There was a great group of people of various backgrounds, all giving freely of their time.Bob Thomasson, Clamper of the Year at JCB 1864 and a friend to this newspaper for his help with our distribution boxes, is helping organize the efforts. Some in the community might know Bob from his volunteer work at the Sutro Tunnel, the Donovan Mill, and many other local projects.

This is only the beginning. The cemetery will need more hands in the weeks ahead to continue its care. If you're interested in volunteering, you can reach out to Bob Thomasson at rlthomasson@gmail.com for the latest on the restoration efforts.

From the Cabin in the Sky, I can tell from the glimpse of dawn on the horizon that it's time to take this breaking news to print.
