The Nevada desert has a complex relationship with water, as has been illustrated in recent days. On the one hand, there's that smell of rain on sagebrush and awe-inspiring cloud formations and lightning strikes seen miles in the distance, out across the flats towards Lahontan. On the other hand, there's the flash flooding and mud and delays and power outages. Luckily, the Cabin in the Sky is on a hill and I'm the proud owner of a Remington manual typewriter that needs no amps to operate. As Jim Clark might say, full steam ahead.

There was a man-made water incident in Virginia City, or as I prefer to call it, a Water Feature. We covered the whole story on page 8, but Joe Curtis wrote in to tell me that "Old Unfaithful," as the Virginia City Street Fountain has been dubbed by locals, has sprung forth before in recent history. Remember folks, there's a lot of surprises under the streets of the Comstock. Dress accordingly.

In Chronicle news, I want to give a heartfelt welcome and thanks to Steph Norby, who has taken on the mantle of Assistant Editor. Steph is a talented journalist and all-around amazing person. With her help, we'll continue turning out great papers every week, and the best newspaper on the Comstock will continue to grow. Steph, welcome to your new role and a heartfelt thanks for your friendship and hard work.

Is the sunrise getting later, or am I rising earlier? It's hard to tell, but there's just enough light out at the Cabin in the Sky to see my way to the overlook. I predict a glorious sunrise. Stay grateful for all the people in your life, embrace the water features when they happen, and always read your local newspaper.
