New Bridge Possible in Dayton's Future
CAMPO Chair Gregory Novak encouraged Lyon County to proactively consider right-of-way and access control as the project receives funding.

Plans are underway for the potential construction of a new bridge over the Carson River in Dayton Valley, a project that members of the Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) view as an important step forward. To initiate this process, CAMPO has unanimously approved an agreement with the Nevada Department of Transportation to allocate approximately $1.25 million in federal Surface Transportation Block Grant funding for a feasibility study regarding the East Dayton Bridge Project.
The study is anticipated to commence towards the end of this year and may take over a year to complete, as indicated in a staff report. CAMPO will oversee the study and engage a consultant for the task. Additionally, Lyon County has expressed its support by committing to a local grant match of $66,000.
Chris Martinovich, the Carson City transportation manager and a CAMPO staff member, emphasized the project's significance: “This study will assess potential bridge locations, necessary roadway connections, and the potential impacts of constructing a new road on the east side of the Dayton Valley alongside the new bridge crossing the Carson River.”
Currently, a bridge exists on Dayton Valley Road, close to where it intersects with Highway 50 and Main Street. Lyon County Commissioner John Cassinelli, who is a member of CAMPO, expressed enthusiasm about the progress of the study. “While there are various opinions on the optimal location, I believe this study will help us identify the best option. There are several pending developments in the area that hinge on the success of this project, and we truly need a second egress from that region. I’m pleased we are moving forward,” he remarked.
