The Virginia City Muckers were able to get a crucial win against the Mineral County Serpents this past weekend.

They started slowly in the first half, heading into halftime with a two-point deficit.

The third quarter proved to be different, though, as the Muckers outscored the Serpents 16-7, giving them a 7-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Keeping their foot on the gas, the game ended with a final score of 64-52.

Helping lead the Muckers was the familiar duo of Derek McCoy and Luke Branson, with another combined 45 points. They also cleared the boards with a season-high 36 rebounds.

This win gave the team a 5-1 league record and pushed the Muckers to the second seed in their division.

As for the Lady Muckers, they breezed past the Lady Serpents.

Top performers of the night were Haylee Walters, who finished with 23 points, and Kaiya Krum, who ended with 15-point, 11-rebound double-double.

The 54-9 win put the girls at 3-2 in the league and third in their division.

Looking ahead, both teams have a tough matchup against the Smith Valley Bulldogs on Saturday, Jan. 24, at home.
