Lyon County to Host Public Workshop on South Silver Springs Area Drainage Master Plan
MEDIA RELEASE
October 29, 2025
Silver Springs, Nev. – Lyon County is inviting residents to attend a public workshop for the South Silver Springs Area Drainage Master Plan on Tuesday, November 4, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Silver Springs Senior Center, 2945 Ft. Churchill St., Silver Springs, NV 89429.
The Drainage Area Master Plan is being developed by Lyon County and the Carson Water Subconservancy District to better understand and manage flooding in the South Silver Springs area. The goal of the project is to identify existing drainage problems, evaluate potential solutions, and inform long-term planning for flood management infrastructure.
Recent storms and flash flood events—particularly those in 2020 and 2023—have highlighted vulnerabilities in the community. This study will help lay the groundwork for smarter, more resilient drainage development and position Lyon County to apply for grant funding for future improvements.
The study area is bounded by Spruce Avenue to the north, the Churchill Butte hills to the west, and the Carson River and Lahontan Reservoir to the south and east.
Community participation is an important part of this process. Residents are encouraged to attend, share their experiences with local flooding, and learn more about the County’s efforts to reduce flood risk and improve public safety.
