I recently reached out to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office to confirm their participation in the Rolling A project using inmate work crews. Sergeant Whitten confirmed that they are coordinating an inmate work crew to assist with the Rolly A project in collaboration with Central Lyon County Fire. "The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is proud to support the Rolling A fuel reduction project through the use of an inmate work crew. This effort provides both a public safety benefit and a rehabilitative opportunity for inmates to contribute positively to their community."

He also answered a couple of questions about the work crew. "Our inmate work crew consists of carefully selected sentenced inmates who are low-risk, minimum-security individuals who have demonstrated good behavior and a willingness to work. Each crew is supervised at all times by a deputy trained in overseeing these types of operations, ensuring the safety of both the public and the inmates, as well as the project's success. We're happy to contribute to community efforts like this, which not only benefit public safety and environmental health but also provide inmates with a valuable opportunity to engage in meaningful, productive work."

The inmate work crew recently helped with cleanup at the Lyon County Fairgrounds, and other work crews' cleanups over the last several months were conducted at the Smith Valley Cemetery and the Fernley Cemetery.
