Press Release
June 17, 2026

Yerington, NV – On June 17, 2026, at approximately 9 a.m., Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a report  of a possible child-luring incident in the 200 block of North Hwy 95A in Yerington. According to the reporting party,  a Hispanic adult male stopped his vehicle and made contact with a child who was playing outside. The reporting party  approached the man, and after a brief conversation, the two parted ways. Feeling that something was not right about the interaction, the reporting party checked the local sex offender registry and discovered the individual was a  registered sex offender residing in the area. He then reported the incident to the Sheriff’s Office, and deputies  immediately responded to investigate.

During the investigation, a deputy met with the reporting party and the child. It was determined the subject had briefly  spoken to the child outside. Rather than engaging further, the child went inside and reported the encounter to their father, who then made contact with the subject. After gathering initial information, the deputy utilized law  enforcement databases to identify the subject and responded to his residence. During contact, the subject was  identified as 78-year-old Rolando Ramirez of Yerington. Deputies determined Ramirez was in violation of his sex  offender registration requirements by operating a vehicle that was not listed on his sex offender registration  paperwork. Ramirez was arrested and booked into the Lyon County Jail on one felony count of Prohibited Acts – Violation of Sex Offender Registration (NRS 179D.550.1).

Following the arrest, Lyon County Detectives were notified and responded to conduct additional follow-up with the  family to further investigate potential child luring. The case will be submitted to the Lyon County District Attorney’s  Office for review and consideration of additional charges once the investigation is completed.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to ensuring that all registered sexual offenders residing in or  visiting Lyon County comply with Nevada’s registration requirements.
