Lyon County Board of County Commissioners Meeting Summary ― March 19, 2026

Yerington, Nevada – The Lyon County Board of County Commissioners met on Thursday, March 19, 2026, in Yerington to hear presentations, conduct public hearings, and take action on several significant development and policy items. Highlights from the meeting include:

Presentations
The meeting began with several informational presentations to the Board, including an update from the Yerington Main Street Committee on current projects and goals for the organization. The committee is working on a number of improvements and beautification projects in Yerington to support economic vitality, promote arts and culture, and preserve the community’s heritage. The Yerington Main Street Committee’s 2025 achievements include securing grant funding from Travel Nevada for sidewalks along Goldfield and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) for façade improvements throughout the Main Street corridor. The committee has installed banner poles, new light poles, stop signs, and street signs as a visitor information center as well as pickle ball courts. The committee is looking forward to installing murals, signage and other projects in 2026.  

Commissioners approved the adoption of the South Silver Springs Area Drainage Master Plan (ADMP) following a presentation from the project’s engineering firm Wood Rogers, inc. The ADMP was developed by Lyon County and the Carson Water Subconservancy District to better understand and manage flooding in the South Silver Springs area. The goal of the project is to identify existing drainage problems, evaluate potential solutions, and inform long-term planning for flood management infrastructure.

The Board also heard a presentation from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Arevia Power on proposed data centers in Silver Springs and a proposed natural gas power plant in Wabuska. Commissioners expressed concerns to Arevia Power regarding the proximity of the proposed Silver Springs Data Center projects to residential areas and urged the company’s representatives to reconsider potential sites.

Vinson Guthreau, the Executive Director of the Nevada Association of Counties, presented on NACO’s role serving counties, including State and Federal policy and advocacy efforts.

Utilities Items
Commissioners heard presentations on several utilities projects, including:

· Aspen Creek Rapid Infiltration Basins (RIBs) – Utilities Director Sean Sinclair provided an update on infiltration testing being conducted near the existing Aspen Creek Rapid Infiltration Basins (RIBs). The testing is intended to evaluate the feasibility of constructing an additional RIB at this location as a potential solution to increase effluent disposal capacity.

· Silver Springs General Improvement District (GID) – The BOCC recessed to reconvene as the Silver Springs GID Board to approve a petition by NVLCO Lyon County, LLC to enlarge the boundary of the GID sewer service area to include APN 015-091-15. The GID Board also approved an agreement with the Nevada Department of Environmental Protection, Board for Financing Water Projects, to receive a grant in an amount not to exceed $592,920 for the Silver Springs GID Wastewater Plant Filter Rehabilitation Project.

Other Board Actions
The Board awarded a bid to replace the asphalt in the parking lot at the Dayton Juvenile Probation Office to the lowest responsible bidder, JWC, for $55,656.30. In addition, Commissioners accepted the donation of a plaque from the local Clampers organization honoring veterans to instal on the new flagpole monument at Hillcrest Cemetery. The Smith Valley CAB voted at their March 4, 2026, meeting to recommend the BOCC accept this donation.

In addition, Commissioners approved the purchase of additional election equipment for mobile ballot counting in the amount of $31,465.50. The Board also approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the Nevada Administrative Office of the Courts, the 3rd Judicial District Court, and Lyon County for a new case management system for District Court.
