High-Risk Search Warrant Service

Fernley, NV - On Sept. 16, 2026, detectives with the Lyon County Sheriff's Office received information regarding a residence in Fernley that was believed to contain illegal drugs, firearms, and evidence related to a possible homicide. Additionally, detectives received information indicating that a deceased individual may have been inside the residence.

As detectives continued their investigation, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were activated and responded to the area. A search warrant was obtained for the residence, which was located in the Villa Mobile Home Park in Fernley.

The search warrant was executed without incident. During the operation, two individuals were located inside the residence and detained. Detectives located evidence of illegal drug sales, firearms, and drug paraphernalia inside the
home. Despite the initial information received, no deceased person was found inside the residence. The occupants, 29- year-old Fernley resident Kody Gitthens and 19-year-old Fernley resident Emma Burns were arrested for drug crimes and booked into the Lyon County Jail.

Detectives were able to determine the homicide was unfounded and no evidence of a homicide was found inside the house.

The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are continuing to review evidence collected during the operation. As a result, a complete list of criminal charges has not yet been determined. Further information will be provided as the investigation progresses.
