Gold Hill Fire Update – July 18, 2026
19.3 acres | 100 % contained
The Gold Fire, west of Gold Hill, managed under unified command between the U.S. Wildland Fire Service and Storey County Fire Protection District is now 100% contained.
The fire remained within its footprint overnight. Firefighters continue mopping up and securing the fire perimeter. Although the fire is 100% contained, crews will continue patrolling, extinguishing remaining hot spots, and securing the area until the fire is declared controlled.
Ophir Grade Road remains closed. There are no structures threatened, no evacuations, and the fire’s cause remains under investigation.

Gold Hill Fire Update – July 17, 2026

The Gold Fire is being managed under unified command between the U.S. Wildland Fire Service and Storey County Fire Protection District.
Firefighters continue to make steady progress on the fire, which is now 75% contained. The fire is burning west of Gold Hill in brush and juniper fuels on steep terrain. Fire behavior remains limited to smoldering and creeping, allowing crews to focus on strengthening containment lines and mopping up remaining pockets of heat, particularly in heavier fuels.
Ophir Grade Road is closed to the public at this time. There are no structures threatened and no evacuations associated with the incident. The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
The interagency response includes personnel and resources from the U.S. Wildland Fire Service, Storey County Fire Protection District, Nevada Division of Forestry, U.S. Forest Service, Lyon County, Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue, North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, Carson City Fire Department, Reno Fire Department, and the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California.
Firefighters will continue securing the perimeter and extinguishing remaining hot spots as they work toward full containment.
