Comstock Metals has reached another major milestone toward opening its large-scale solar panel recycling facility in Silver Springs, following the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection’s recent approval of its permits.
The facility is now fully permitted and marks a significant step towards commissioning the region’s first industry-scale, zero-landfill recycling facility for end-of-life solar panels. Once operational, the plant will be capable of processing more than 3 million panels each year, recovering valuable metals like aluminum, silver, and other critical materials that would otherwise end up in landfills.
“This approval keeps our project right on schedule and positions Nevada at the forefront of responsible clean-energy recycling,” said Dr. Fortunato Villamagna, President of Comstock Metals. “We’re proud to be developing this solution right here in our home state.”
The Silver Springs facility is already generating local benefits. Construction, equipment installation, and site development have brought new jobs and contracting opportunities to Lyon County, with additional full-time positions expected once the plant begins operations later this year. The company anticipates steady hiring across operations, maintenance, and logistics as the site scales up.
Comstock executives say the project not only strengthens Nevada’s leadership in
renewable energy but also helps protect local land and water by keeping hazardous
materials out of landfills. By processing panels in a responsible manner as Comstock Metals does, the facility ensures both environmental accountability to anyone installing solar panels in Nevada or elsewhere in the country, and economic investment stays in Nevada. Comstock Metals was founded in Silver Springs, Nevada, but making the US and the world a better place.
“This is about turning today’s waste challenge into tomorrow’s economic opportunity,” said Corrado De Gasperis, Executive Chairman and CEO of Comstock Inc. “We’re building the foundation for clean industry, new jobs, and a stronger Nevada.”
