Community Unites in Memory of Charlie Kirk

The Comstock and Northern Lyon County community have been deeply touched by the recent politically motivated assassination of Charlie Kirk. On every street corner and in every church and coffee shop, conversation on the topic can be heard. On Saturday September 21st, a large group of people gathered at Kay Winters Park in Dayton for a memorial service. The well attended gathering, held the day before Kirk's official memorial in Arizona, was peaceful and full of prayer.
Kirk - a Christian activist, founder of Turning Point USA, husband, and father - was assassinated September 10 on a college campus in Utah. His death has been the catalyst for a national conversation on Christianity, forgiveness, freedom of speech, and political violence.
Separately from the public gathering, the Lyon Board of County Commisioners selected to name the Dayton Government Complex building the “Charles J. Kirk Government Complex." The building will be the future site of the Dayton Justice Court, District Attorney’s Dayton Office, Human Services Dayton Office, and Sheriff’s Office Dayton Substation. The building permit application for the facility has been submitted to the Community Development Department as well as Central Lyon County Fire Protection District. A date for the groundbreaking of the facility will be announced in the near future.
