On Sunday, March 22, 59 volunteers took to the streets of Old Town Dayton for the first ever Dayton Main Street Old Town Cleanup Day. This America250/Nevada Gives Volunteer Project received an amazing response from the community, with individual residents as well as community service groups –Desert Pigs, Kiwanis Club of Dayton Township, BSA Troop 847, Cub Scout Pack 360, DHS Boosters, and Historical Society of Dayton Valley – showing up to support.

For more than three hours, volunteers productively cut, chopped, raked, dug, pruned, and dumped more than 50 cubic yards of trash, debris, and decades-old overgrown vegetation off the street edges and out of historic Gold Creek.

Thanks to the Central Lyon Fire Fuels Reduction team and Dayton Valley Conservation District for working with the Dayton Main Street Board so volunteers would know what native plants to save and which weeds to remove.
