Coats for Kids: Keeping Our Community Warm This Winter
Written by Mike Navin, Dayton Knights of Columbus Grand Knight
Today, 18% of American children and 14% of Canadian children live in poverty. As a result, many families cannot afford to provide even the basic necessity of a warm winter coat. Putting their faith into action, Knights of Columbus councils have handed out more than one million coats to children throughout the United States and Canada through the Knights of Columbus Coats for Kids® program. On Monday, Oct. 20, the Knights of Columbus Council No. 13924 from St Ann Catholic Church in Dayton in partnership with the Dayton Valley Lions Club distributed 12 cases of warm winter coats to local schools:
- Silver Stage High School, Middle School, and Elementary School
- Virginia City Middle School and Hugh Gallagher Elementary
- Dayton High School
- The Comfort House (Silver Springs): a trauma-informed family foster care facility with the goal to keep Lyon County children in the local community
