Virginia City will once again tip its hat to the golden age of the Old West with Bonanza Days, a two-day community celebration honoring Western heritage, local history, and the enduring legacy of the legendary television series Bonanza, taking place Saturday and Sunday, May 9-10, 2026.

Set in the very town that inspired the show, Bonanza Days brings residents and visitors together for a family-friendly weekend filled with history, nostalgia, and hometown fun. The event celebrates Virginia City’s unique place in American history and popular culture while supporting local businesses, attractions, and organizations.

Bonanza Days is open to the public, with many activities free or low-cost, making it an accessible and welcoming celebration for all ages.

Planned highlights include:

● Screenings of classic Bonanza episodes at Piper’s Opera House
● The “Memories of Bonanza” lecture and presentation
● A Bonanza Look-Alike Contest
● Western-themed activities, exhibits, and merchant participation throughout Virginia City
● Bonanza Days Headquarters at the Territorial Enterprise Mark Twain Museum

Shops, saloons, museums, and merchants will join in with special displays, costumes, and photo opportunities that immerse visitors in the spirit of the Comstock.

“Bonanza Days is about celebrating Virginia City’s rich heritage and the sense of community that still defines this town,” said Steven Saylor, event organizer. “It’s a chance to welcome families, history lovers, and fans of the show to experience Virginia City as a living Western town.”

In conjunction with the event, a complimentary full-color commemorative newspaper, The Bonanza Times, will be printed and distributed free throughout Virginia City during the weekend, featuring event information, historical articles, and local advertising.

The Bonanza Times is a powerful opportunity for local businesses, organizations, and sponsors to reach thousands of visitors through this official Old-West inspired commemorative publication, with an anticipated distribution of 2,500 copies.

Participating advertisers have the opportunity to:

● Showcase their business to a highly engaged audience
● Share their story through feature-style articles
● Align their brand with one of Nevada’s most anticipated heritage events
● Support a major community celebration that drives tourism and local commerce

With the support of the Virginia City Tourism Commission, this undertaking extends beyond celebration—serving a greater good. Proceeds from Bonanza Days will aid The Judy Project Animal Rescue & Sanctuary and the Wild Horse Preservation League, both 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations committed to the care, protection, and preservation of animals throughout the region.
