A Visit To Molossia

A Visit To Molossia
President Kevin Baugh and the First Lady

I enjoy exploring my local area, and a one-day "staycation" this past Saturday morning brought me to Molossia, officially the Republic of Molossia, a micronation claiming de facto sovereignty over 11.3 acres near Dayton, NV. Founded by Kevin Baugh in 1977, it continues to thrive. Baugh pays property taxes to the recognized local government, which he humorously calls "foreign aid."

This was a fun and educational adventure. Upon arrival for your prescheduled tour, President Kevin Baugh and the First Lady greet you and invite you to pose for a photo at the border of the United States and Molossia. Then, you pass through customs, where your passport is stamped—an official touch. Notably, Molossia has its own flag, with blue representing the sky, white for the snow-capped mountains, and green for the landscape.

The President and First Lady escort you on the tour, first explaining their laws and the care expected from guests to protect the environment. Pack your sense of humor for this excursion—it’s well worth it. The President’s dedication to Molossia shines through, paired with a quick wit that keeps you laughing if you pay close attention.

They offer working telephone services, a post office, a radio station, a fire department, a mercantile, a Presidential office, and a bar and grill (though no food is served). You’ll learn about their irrigation system, entertainment, military, and space exploration efforts, and you might even end up in the "clink." This family-friendly experience is an easy walk, and you get to meet and speak with the President and First Lady directly.

Details about Molossia, how to visit, what to expect, and their calendar are available at https://www.molossia.org.
