A Tip of the Hat to Nevada Day
November 3, 2026
Dear Members of the Nevada Day Committee,
It has been said that a man should never turn down an honor, particularly when it comes from people who know him well enough to know better!
My heartfelt thanks to the Nevada Day Committee for selecting me as Grand Marshal of the 2026 Nevada Day Parade. Over the years, I have enjoyed a fair number of adventures here in the Silver State, but riding through the streets of Carson City in a magnificent 1920 electric carriage ranks among the finest. Even Mark Twain might have set aside his cigar long enough to take notice!
My wife, Johnye, and I thoroughly enjoyed the festivities and the wonderful hospitality extended to us. From the committee members and volunteers to the thousands of smiling faces along the parade route, everyone made the occasion truly memorable.
I have long maintained that Nevada is a place where history and imagination shake hands, where yesterday’s legends still walk among us, and where a fellow can occasionally find himself mistaken for someone of considerable importance. On October 31st, thanks to all of you, I enjoyed just such a misunderstanding!
The Nevada Day Parade is far more than a procession of horses, marching bands, and decorated floats. It is a grand celebration of our heritage and the independent spirit that makes Nevada unlike any other place on earth. My congratulations to the committee for another splendid celebration.
As Mr. Twain might have observed, there are few things in life more gratifying than being celebrated by one’s neighbors—particularly when they have had ample opportunity to discover one’s shortcomings!
With sincere appreciation, warmest regards, and a tip of my hat to all of you,
Steven Saylor
