25 Years Later: 9/11 Commemoration

Local Northern Nevada 9/11 remembrances:
• Join the City of Sparks, the Association of the US Army, VFW Silver State Post 3396, and other community partners to commemorate Patriot Day at the Nevada Veterans Memorial Plaza at Sparks Marina at 9 a.m. on Sept. 11.
• Fallon’s 9/11 ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at the City Hall courtyard. Guest speaker is Maj. Gen. D. Rodger Waters, the Nevada National Guard’s adjutant general.
• The University of Nevada, Reno will hold a ceremony at 8:46 a.m. on Sept. 11 at South Quad, Morrill Hall. Approximately 2,977 American flags, each representing a life lost in the Sept. 11 attacks, will honor the lives lost. A tribute also honors the service members from Nevada who made the ultimate sacrifice.
• Honor Flight Nevada and Reno-Tahoe International Airport will hold a memorial ceremony at the Ski Statue in the airport lobby at 6AM on Sept. 11.
• Carson City will hold at ceremony at noon at Mills Park on Sept. 11.
• The Diocese of Reno and the Tahoe Philharmonic will present a Requiem Concert at St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12. Information and tickets.
• The Carson City Christian Ministerial Fellowship will gather in Mills Park at the 911 Memorial site, located near the entrance of the Marv Teixeira Pavilion and the Carson & Mills Park Railroad. The event will begin on 9/11 at 6 p.m. in remembrance of what took place 25 years ago.
Aces 9/11: military appreciation night
The Reno Aces will have a special 9/11 and Military Appreciation Night at Greater Nevada Field beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Aces host the Albuquerque Isotopes in a Sept. 11 night game that begins following a salute to the military.
Military Appreciation Night at Greater Nevada Field not only pays tributes to the armed forces but also reflects on prisoners of war or individuals missing in action. The Vietnam Veterans of American, Sierra Nevada Chapter 989 in Reno and the Aces dedicated the POW-MIA (Prisoner of War-Missing in Action) chair in 2019 which has a view of the field from the visitor-side of the field at section 118.
Tahoe Philharmonic
An evening of powerful and emotional music honoring those who served our country during 9/11 and all who protect and serve it now, presented by the Tahoe Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus. General admission is $35-$50, but free tickets are available for veterans, first responders, and those under 23 years of age. They are also offering senior discounts. Join NJC for the 5th Annual Ride to Remember Jeep Convoy. On this day, ride to remember the brave service members (firefighters and police) and the victims of Sept. 11, 2001. Convoy from the parking lot behind the Fox Restaurant & Brewery around town and end at the 9/11 Memorial at Mills Park.
